Great Interview About the Tarot of Bones!

Hey, folks! This is a link to a GREAT interview I had on the Animals & Culture blog with Meg Brown. I’ve known her for several years through the vulture culture community, and as she’s been putting more emphasis on her nature writing she’s blogging “about human-animal relationships—and the vastly divergent ideologies surrounding them—in historic and contemporary culture”.

In this interview we talk a lot about my ongoing work on the Tarot of Bones, and she asked some REALLY good questions about the inspiration behind the deck and the process of creating it. (P.S. The Tarot of Bones Spring 2016 IndieGoGo campaign is live only through this Saturday, April 30!)

The Tarot of Bones Spring 2016 IndieGoGo Campaign is LIVE!!!!!!

springindiegogo
Great news, everyone! The Tarot of Bones Spring 2016 IndieGoGo Campaign is LIVE!!!!!! You’ve got 60 days to back the campaign and get all sorts of cool perks–prints, a Tarot of Bones reading, jewelry made from bones left over from the assemblages, and of course the Tarot of Bones deck and book when they come out later this year.

Why a second campaign? Well, I had a LOT of people miss out on the first one last year, either because they didn’t have the funding to chip in or they didn’t hear about it until it was already over. This is a chance for them to back the project and help bring it to fruition. And although last year’s campaign was incredibly successful, covering the materials for the assemblages and other associated costs, this campaign will help with the substantial costs of printing and shipping the deck and books once the design work is all completed.  It’s not my only source of funding, but every contribution helps!

Here are a few very important things to keep in mind:

–Since last year, IndieGoGo has implemented the ability to add shipping charges to physical perks that will be mailed to contributors. This means that, unlike the 2015 campaign, shipping is NOT included in the contribution amounts on the campaign page–they’ll be added during the checkout process. I apologize in advance to non-U.S. backers for the higher shipping costs: earlier this year the post office raised international postage rates significantly higher than they were before.

–Some of the new perks, like bone jewelry and readings, are offered on their own, as well as in packages with the Tarot of Bones deck and book. This is so that backers of the 2015 campaign can get in on them if they so choose, without having to get a second deck and book. Please read all perk descriptions carefully before making your contribution! You CAN get more than one perk package, but you will need to make one individual contribution per perk package (and yes, that means going through the entire process each time–thank you for your patience!)

–Can’t contribute right now? That’s okay! You can still help by spreading the link around; here’s a convenient shortened link: http://igg.me/at/tarotofbones2016

Many, many thanks for your generosity and help, both last year and now! Let’s make this happen!

Hey, I Need Your Help! (Yes, You!)

Hey, all–I need your help and feedback!

Last spring I had a wildly successful IndieGoGo campaign (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-tarot-of-bones) that raised funds for the substantial cost for the materials I needed to create the assemblages, and cover some additional expenses like paying a graphic artist for the card back art, buying the books to fulfill campaign perks, and starting to stock up on shipping materials.

While over 200 people supported the first IndieGoGo campaign, there were a lot of folks who were unable to do so at the time, or who didn’t hear about it until after the campaign was over. So I’m running another campaign in February-March 2016; this will give folks another chance to preorder the Tarot of Bones deck and book at a lower cost. It will also help me cover the rest of the funding I’ll need to print the deck and book, to pay for perks for both campaigns, and shipping all of the above once the deck and book are out. IndieGoGo is not my only source of funding for this project, but it helps a great deal!

I’ve created this quick survey right here so you can tell me which perks you’d like to see me offer this time around. IndieGoGo only allows twenty perks, and I want to make sure the ones I offer are ones YOU want to have (plus leave room for a few expansions and international-only options as needed). You can also make suggestions for perks not listed here; however, keep in mind that IndieGoGo only lets you choose one perk at a time, so having a bunch of add-ons like “one pouch” will take up perk space very quickly. Packages including the deck and book in addition to other goodies are a better option.

Thank you for your time; your feedback will help me make the Tarot of Bones 2016 IndieGoGo campaign even better!

And please reblog/share to help me get more responses!

Another New Card–and Another Interview!

fiveswords

Yay, studio time! Here’s another one of the Swords, the Five, which is just a ball of fun with betrayal, defeat, aggression and isolation brought on by being a jerk. I mean, sure, reversed it may mean you’re ready to turn over a new leaf, but all those people you screwed over may not be ready for the New You. Rebuilding those relationships may take time, and you might have to accept some bridges stay burned. It’s a simple piece, but I’m really happy with the design on it (even if I did smudge the adhesive a bit–grrrr).

In other news, I have a brand-new interview about the Tarot of Bones over at Aedicula Antinoi: A Small Shrine of Antinous. I’ve known P. Sufenas Virius Lupus for a number of years, and I was quite honored to chat with em some about the project. Also, if you ever have occasion to attend eir talks or rituals, or take a university course from em-do it! It’s well worth it.

P.S. – Obligatory Tarot of Bones IndieGoGo mention!

I’m on the Archetypal Tarot Podcast!

My most recent podcast interview about the Tarot of Bones is live at The Archetypal Tarot Podcast: Death & Connection to Nature! It’s a really in-depth, crunchy interview, where we get into a lot of symbolism about death as a natural part of the life cycle, working with animal remains in funerary art, some of my spiritual and artistic process for the Tarot of Bones, and much more. This is a good one, folks!

(Also, obligatory reminder of the Tarot of Bones IndieGoGo campaign, which is currently at $8,265 and ends May 19.)

The Tarot of Bones in the News!

Over the past few weeks I’ve been fortunate enough to have been interviewed several times regarding the Tarot of  Bones (and, often, other works of mine like my books and other artwork). These interviews are a great way for you to get more of the background for the Tarot of Bones and my motivations for creating it. Some of the interviews are still in the editing process, but here are the ones that are live so far:

Article – Spiral Nature: A Chat With Lupa About Bones (4-30-15)

Podcast – Pagans Tonight Radio Network: Interview with Lupa (my interview starts two hours into the show) (4-29-15)

Podcast – This Week In Heresy: Environmentalism For All of Us with Lupa Greenwolf (4-17-15)

Article – A Tarot of Bones: Interview with Artist Lupa Greenwolf (4-16-15)

Podcast – Pagan Musings Podcast: The Tarot of Bones With Lupa (4-12-15)

If you are a journalist/blogger/podcaster/etc. interested in interviewing me, or you know of a relevant media source who may be interested in my work, please feel free to contact me at lupa.greenwolf(at)gmail.com – thank you!

Also, just as an update, the Tarot of Bones IndieGoGo is currently 164% at $8,175! We’re just $825 from unlocking the next stretch goal–an exclusive Livestream class on the Tarot of Bones only available to campaign backers! Here’s the campaign link, if you or someone you know would like to help make the Tarot of Bones a reality, and thank you 🙂

$7,000–and Two New Stretch Goals!

Hey, all! So we hit $7,000 (actually $7,030) this morning on the official Tarot of Bones IndieGoGo campaign, just two weeks after it went live–woohoo, and THANK YOU!!!!!! This means that we’re now over 140% funded, AND we’ve reached the first stretch goal, and I will be adding a Happy Squirrel card to the official Tarot of Bones deck.

I’d also like to announce the next two stretch goals:

If this IndieGoGo campaign reaches $9,000 before it ends, once the Tarot of Bones deck and book are out, I will offer a free Livestream class on how to use the Tarot of Bones exclusively for IndieGoGo backers. For those who can’t make it, I will email the video to you afterward, and I will wait a month before I put it up on YouTube for everyone to see. This will happen in the latter half of 2016 (unless for some unknown reason I have to release the deck and book later than Summer 2016).

And if the campaign reaches $12,000 before it ends, I will record an audiobook version of the Tarot of Bones book! This will be useful not just for people who are better audio learners than readers, but also for people who may have limited vision. I will be recording it at home, so this will not be a pro-level audiobook with a big-name celebrity reader, but I promise to do the very best that I can with freeware like Audacity. I plan for the audiobook to be released within a year as both a downloadable file and a CD after the hardcopy deck and book are out. All IndieGoGo backers will get the file version of the audiobook for free.

I’ll be posting pictures of the newest Tarot of Bones assemblage piece tomorrow. In the meantime, if you haven’t yet backed the campaign or you know someone who would like to, now’s a great time to join the party!

The Five of Cups–and a Happier Note!

fivecups

Hi, all–hope you’re enjoying your weekend! I wanted to share my newest assemblage with you: the Five of Cups! This is not the happiest card ever; it tends to signify sadness, regret and other unhappy things. Even when reversed, it can be a symbol of recovery, but often an uphill one with lots of challenges. Not the nicest card in the deck, but it’s a reminder that we all have moments of loss and pain, and perhaps we can take some solace from that.

On a happier note, the Tarot of Bones IndieGoGo campaign is at $6,770! That means that we’re at 135% funding–and we’re just $230 from the first stretch goal, which will mean I get to include a Happy Squirrel card in the final deck, and I’ll announce the next stretch goal. Want to contribute, or share the campaign with someone else? Here’s the link, and thank you!

Announcing the First Tarot of Bones IndieGoGo Stretch Goal!

Can you believe it? We funded the Tarot of Bones IndieGoGo campaign in its first 100 hours!   Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who chipped in, whether by backing the campaign or spreading the word or being moral support through this crazy week. So now that we’ve got our first $5,000 (and change) what’s next? This:

Allow me to announce our first stretch goal:

If the Tarot of Bones IndieGoGo campaign gets to $7000 before it ends, I will add a Happy Squirrel card to the official Tarot of Bones deck and book.

What’s the Happy Squirrel card? It’s something of an in-joke among tarot fans, stemming from a 1995 episode of The Simpsons.

Here’s more of an explanation

.The $5000 already covers my materials for the assemblages, with a little left over to put toward printing/shipping, perk fulfillment and other administrative costsIf we get to $7000, I will have more administrative funding, and I’ll make a Happy Squirrel assemblage piece to be included as the 79th card in the deck. We’re already at a little over $5700–let’s see how fast you can make me have to come up with the next stretch goal!
